Ckx Lands, Inc.
A land management company based in Lake Charles, Louisiana, that owns property across the state and earns income three ways: leasing land to oil and gas operators, growing and selling timber, and renting surface land for farming and hunting. It began in 1930 when regulators forced a local bank to write off the mineral interests it held, and the bank bundled those seemingly worthless claims into a new company. Decades later some of those dormant wells began producing oil.
