A mortgage real estate investment trust, CYS Investments made its money by buying pools of home loans rather than physical buildings — residential mortgage-backed securities guaranteed by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Ginnie Mae. Founded in 2006 by Kevin Grant, it was originally named Cypress Sharpridge Investments, and its ticker "CYS" came from the initials of that longer name. Headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts, the company merged into Two Harbors Investment Corp. in 2018.
