National Western Life Group, Inc.
An insurance company that sells life insurance and annuities—products like whole, universal, and term life, plus fixed and indexed annuities—to individuals and families, and even to foreign nationals, through independent agents. Founded in 1956, it grew out of Texas and was long guided by the Moody family, the storied clan behind several of the state's most famous banks and businesses. Its name was chosen to signal "national ambition," a nod to how far beyond its Western roots it planned to reach.
