Hercules Offshore, Inc.
A Houston-based offshore drilling company that ran a fleet of jackup rigs and liftboats used to drill for oil and gas in shallow waters, mainly in the Gulf of Mexico. It was founded in 2004 by the investment firm Lime Rock Partners, which bought rigs from Parker Drilling and gave them all the "Hercules" prefix, after the mythological strongman. The company later filed for bankruptcy in 2016, and its U.S. assets were bought up by Enterprise Offshore Drilling, run by some of its former executives.
