Hersha Hospitality Trust
A real estate investment and management company that owns and operates upscale hotels across major U.S. cities and resort destinations, running them under big-name brands like Marriott, Hilton, and Hyatt as well as its own independent collections. The business began in 1979 when Indian-American immigrants Hasu and Hersha Shah bought an eleven-room motel near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and it became a publicly traded trust in 1999. A charming touch: the company is named after Hasu's wife Hersha, who worked alongside him from the very first motel.
