Montpelier Re Holdings Ltd

A Bermuda-based reinsurer that backed other insurance companies against big disasters like hurricanes, quakes and terrorism, plus specialty lines such as marine and aviation. It was launched in 2001 by White Mountains and Benfield after the September 11 attacks. The "Montpelier" name nods to the Vermont capital, tying it to White Mountains' New England roots.
