Orocobre Ltd
An Australian mining company that digs up lithium and borax from the salt flats of Argentina's Jujuy province, its flagship Olaroz project has turned out lithium carbonate for electric-car batteries since 2014. Founded in 2005 by veterans of earlier Argentine mining ventures, it listed on the Australian exchange in 2007. Its name is a mash-up of the Spanish words for gold ("oro") and copper ("cobre")—even though the company wound up famous for a very different metal.
