Emc Insurance Group Inc.

A property and casualty insurer headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, that covers businesses, organizations, and individual workers with commercial insurance, liability, and bonds. Founded in 1911 by John Gunn and a group of local business owners as the Employers Mutual Casualty Association, it was created to give Iowa manufacturers workers' compensation coverage even before the state's workers' comp laws took effect in 1914. The "Employers Mutual" name comes straight from that founding mission, and EMC Insurance Group was later formed in 1974 as the holding company that now runs the business.
