Nuveen Amt-Free Municipal Value Fund
A closed-end investment fund that pools investor money into a diversified portfolio of municipal bonds — debt issued by states and cities for public projects — aiming to pay out income free of regular federal taxes. Its "AMT-Free" name means the bonds it holds also escape the federal Alternative Minimum Tax. Launched in 2009, it is managed by the Nuveen firm, which traces back to 1898 when German immigrant John Nuveen left Chicago's grocery trade to underwrite municipal bonds — a business that funded schools, sewers, and water systems across young western territories.
