Cardinal Financial Corporation
A community bank holding company that served the Washington, D.C. metro region through its subsidiary, Cardinal Bank, offering everyday banking, mortgage, and wealth-management services. Founded in 1997 by a group that included a Virginia attorney and politician, its first branch opened in McLean, Virginia, in 1998. The name nods to the cardinal, Virginia's state bird. The company was acquired by United Bankshares in 2017.
