A maker of life-sciences tools that study the human proteome — the vast collection of proteins in the body — by counting individual protein molecules one at a time, a field called proteomics. Its commercial instrument, the Voyager platform, is designed to give researchers a far more complete picture of proteins than older methods, opening doors for drug discovery and diagnostics. Founded in 2016 by Sujal Patel, the entrepreneur behind the storage company Isilon Systems, and Stanford scientist Parag Mallick, the firm borrowed its name from Jules Verne's Nautilus submarine — a nod to its mission of exploring hidden "treasures" deep within biology.
