A grower-owned cooperative that sources, packs, ripens, and distributes fresh avocados, tomatoes, and papayas for supermarkets and restaurants, and also makes prepared guacamole, salsas, and avocado dips under brands like Calavo Gold and Bueno. Founded in 1924 as the California Avocado Growers Exchange, the company got its "Calavo" name two years later through a national contest that drew thousands of entries — a mashup of "California" and "avocado."
