Catamaran Corporation
A pharmacy benefit manager, Catamaran Corporation ran the systems that process prescription claims for health plans, employers, and government programs. Founded in 1993 as Canadian startup SXC Health Solutions, it took the name Catamaran in 2012 after merging with Catalyst Health Solutions. The name—from the twin-hulled boat—signaled a nimble, flexible way to navigate healthcare's choppy waters, and traces back to a Tamil phrase meaning "tied logs." It was later folded into UnitedHealth's OptumRx.
