A maker of rocket engines and propulsion systems for spacecraft, missiles, and satellites, based in the United States. Its engines have powered NASA missions including the Space Shuttle and the heavy-lift SLS rocket. Founded in 1942 as Aerojet by Caltech professor Theodore von Karman, it grew from its original near-Pasadena roots, and its name comes from combining "aero" and "jet" when it built one of America's first rocket engines. Its RS-25 engines, adapted from the shuttle program, now lift NASA's SLS rockets into space.
