AES TRUST III
A financing vehicle rather than an operating company, AES Trust III is a special-purpose trust created in 1999 by The AES Corporation, a global power generation company. The trust sold trust-preferred securities to investors and used the proceeds to buy junior subordinated convertible debentures from its parent, helping AES raise capital. Its securities once traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker AES-C and were redeemed in 2017. AES itself was founded in 1981 by Roger Sant and Dennis Bakke as Applied Energy Services, an energy consulting firm that grew into one of the world's largest independent power producers.
