Contango Oil & Gas Co
An independent energy company that explored for and produced crude oil and natural gas, chiefly from shallow Gulf of Mexico waters. Kenneth Peak founded it in 1999, investing his life savings, and colleagues nicknamed him the "Warren Buffett of natural gas." Peak named the company's offshore wells after characters from The Big Lebowski. The name comes from the commodity-trading term for futures prices that sit above spot prices. In 2021 it merged with Independence Energy to become Crescent Energy Company.
