A U.S. maker of high-performance refractory metals like tungsten, molybdenum, and niobium, which withstand extreme heat and are used in aerospace and defense. Founded in 1929 as the American Electro Metals Corporation, it spent more than seventy years under Royal Philips and Philips Lighting before returning to U.S. ownership. Its name comes from the "El" and "Met" of its original name—American ELectro METals.
