Danone SA

A French food-and-beverage maker whose grocery shelves span yogurt, baby formula, and bottled water. Danone sells well-known brands like Activia, Oikos, and Evian. It began in 1919 when doctor Isaac Carasso sold yogurt in Barcelona as a health food for children, naming it after his son, whose nickname was "Danon." Since Spanish authorities would not register a person's name as a brand, he added an "e" — and Danone was born.
