A Kansas City-based investment management firm, Waddell & Reed built a name in mutual funds, offering retail funds, annuities, and advisory services to individual investors and institutions. Founded in 1937, it was co-created by investment pioneer Chauncey Waddell and his associate L. Reed, who lent the firm its doubled surname. The company is known for the Ivy Funds family of mutual funds, and for decades it grew through a network of independent financial advisors who sold its products door to door across America.
