An Athens-based shipping company that hauled dry bulk cargoes like coal, iron ore, and grain across the oceans, and also operated tankers, gas carriers, and offshore support vessels for the energy industry. It was founded in 2004 by Greek shipowner George Economou, and in 2005 became the first dry bulk shipper to list on the U.S. stock market. Its name simply describes what it does — a "dry ship" is the industry term for a vessel carrying solid cargo rather than liquids.
