A maker of medicines and aesthetics treatments best known for Botox, the wrinkle-smoothing injection also used for medical conditions like migraines and eye muscle disorders. It began in 1948 when Los Angeles pharmacist Gavin Herbert and chemist Stanley Bly cooked up an antihistamine nose drop in a lab above his drugstore; an ophthalmologist's tip to turn it into an eye drop launched the company into eye care. The name Allergan blends "allergy" and "neoantergan," its first drug's ingredient.
