A maker of nearly invisible, rechargeable hearing aids that sit deep inside the ear canal, Eargo sold its devices directly to people over the internet rather than through clinics. The name blends "ear" with "ergo," hinting at the ergonomic design; its soft silicone tips were nicknamed for looking like fishing flies. Founded in 2010 by an ear surgeon and his son, the company later merged with hearX to form LXE Hearing.
