Alarm.com Holdings, Inc.
A maker of cloud-based software and mobile apps that power home and business security systems, Alarm.com connects cameras, sensors, and thermostats so users can monitor and control their properties remotely. Founded in 2000 as a research unit inside the software firm MicroStrategy, the company got its name from a domain that MicroStrategy's founder had bought years earlier with no plan for it. Alarm.com went public in 2015 and its technology is sold and installed through a network of independent security service providers.
