A maker of computer network connectivity hardware, Emulex built the controllers and host bus adapters that link servers and data storage systems together, becoming a fixture in enterprise data centers. Fred B. Cox founded the company in 1978, and it made its name supplying disk, tape, and communication controllers for Digital Equipment Corporation's popular VAX and PDP-11 computers. In a memorable 1983 ad, it pitched itself as the one-stop "grocery store" for DEC users, and in 2015 it was folded into Avago Technologies.
