A financing arm of the offshore drilling company Ensco (now part of Valaris), Ensco Jersey Finance Ltd issues bonds and debt instruments to help fund the parent's rig operations. Ensco itself grew out of Blocker Energy, a Texas drilling firm bought in 1975 by oilman John R. Blocker; after a 1980s downturn and restructuring, it was renamed Energy Service Company, and "Ensco" is simply the acronym of those initials. The company later merged with Rowan in 2019 and rebranded as Valaris, one of the world's largest offshore drilling contractors.
