A Swedish maker of the networks, software, and services that keep mobile phones connected, Ericsson builds and runs the mobile and broadband infrastructure used by telecom operators and businesses around the world, including today's 5G networks. It began in 1876 when Lars Magnus Ericsson opened a tiny Stockholm workshop to repair telegraphs and telephones — and, since Alexander Graham Bell never patented his telephone in Sweden, Ericsson studied the broken Bell phones that came in for repair and started building his own, sturdier versions. The company still carries the founder's name, a Swedish patronymic meaning "son of Eric."
