A Chinese human-resources company whose flagship website, 51job.com, connects job seekers with employers — posting job listings, hosting resumes, and offering services like executive search and payroll outsourcing. It was founded in 1998 in Beijing by Rick Yan and colleagues at a time when most jobs in China were still assigned by the government, and its first product was a weekly printed job-listing newspaper. The name is a pun: "51" sounds like the Mandarin phrase for "I want," so the brand roughly reads as "I want a job," and the company is known in China as 前程无忧, meaning "a worry-free future."
