A bank holding company based in Chicago, First Midwest Bancorp ran First Midwest Bank, offering everyday commercial and retail banking, mortgages, wealth management, and insurance to households across Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Its roots reach back to the Union National Bank and Trust Company of Joliet, Illinois, founded in 1940, and the holding company was formally created in 1982—the "First" name reflecting a drive to grow from its Illinois base into the wider Midwest. In 2022 the company was acquired by Old National Bank.
