Fresenius Medical Care AG
A maker of kidney-dialysis machines, filters, and clinics, Fresenius Medical Care helps people with kidney failure get life-sustaining dialysis treatment at its Fresenius Kidney Care centers and at home. Its roots go back to a German pharmacy founded in 1912, and the company was born in 1996 when that firm's dialysis business merged with the American care provider National Medical Care. The Fresenius name itself comes from the pharmacist Eduard Fresenius, who started the original company from the historic Hirsch (Deer) Pharmacy in Frankfurt.
