A major U.S. internet and phone company, Frontier Communications delivers fiber-optic broadband to homes and businesses across dozens of states, including its popular Frontier-branded service. It traces its roots to 1935, when it launched in Minneapolis as Citizens Utilities, buying up small, distressed water, gas, electric, and phone utilities in rural and underserved towns during the Great Depression. The company kept the "Frontier" consumer brand it already used for phone and internet services when it formally renamed itself in 2008.
