A developer and operator of high-performance data centers in China, GDS (short for Global Data Solutions) builds and runs the big, power-dense facilities where cloud providers and large enterprises house their servers. Founded in 2001 by William Wei Huang, the company began by offering disaster-recovery services to financial firms before growing into China's largest carrier-neutral data center operator. Huang previously worked at the software company behind StockStar.com, a popular Chinese finance website, before striking out on his own.
