General Growth Properties Inc.
A real estate investment trust that owned and operated shopping malls across the United States, including major properties like Oakbrook Center near Chicago and the Water Tower Place mall in downtown Chicago. It was founded in 1954 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, by three brothers, Martin, Matthew, and Maurice Bucksbaum, who got their start while scouting supermarket locations and decided to build a shopping center instead. The brothers' first project was Town and Country Shopping Center, which opened in 1956; the company later took on the name General Growth Properties and moved its headquarters to Chicago. In 2018 the company was acquired by Brookfield Property Partners.
