A publisher of newspapers across America, Gannett runs the national paper USA Today and hundreds of local newspapers and digital news outlets. It began when Frank Gannett bought into the Elmira Gazette in 1906, then kept merging rival papers and joining their names with a hyphen—earning him the nickname "The Great Hyphenator." In 2025 the company renamed itself USA Today Co. to match its flagship paper.
