Getty Realty Corp.
A real estate investment trust that owns and leases out the land and buildings behind convenience stores, gas stations, car washes, auto-service shops, and drive-thru restaurants across the country. It began in the 1950s as the property arm of Getty Oil, the empire built by oil baron J. Paul Getty, and spun off as its own publicly traded company in 1971. Though its roots lie in the famous Getty-branded fuel network, it now often redevelops old gas-station sites into new retail, so a spot that once pumped gas may today serve tacos or tunnel washes.
