Hill-Rom Holdings, Inc.
A maker of hospital beds, stretchers, surgical tables, and patient-monitoring gear, Hill-Rom (now known as Hillrom) supplies hospitals, clinics, and home-care settings. It was founded in 1929 in Batesville, Indiana, by William A. Hillenbrand, whose mission was "bringing the home into the hospital." The name blends "Hill" from the founder's surname with "Rom" for "room." Fun fact: for decades it shared a parent company with the Batesville Casket Company — one arm furnishing patients' first hospital rooms, the other their final resting places — until the two split in 2008.
