A pioneer of China's budget hotel segment, Home Inns runs a chain of clean, consistent, no-frills hotels under the Chinese name Rujia (如家), which literally means "like home" — a promise of comfort for value-conscious business and leisure travelers. It was co-founded in 2001 by Neil Shen and Ji Qi, the same pair behind the travel site Ctrip, and grew from a handful of hotels into one of the country's largest economy chains. The name itself is the fun detail: the character "jia" means home or family, so the brand literally promises a home away from home.
