One of the world's largest electronics manufacturers, this Taiwanese company assembles smartphones, computers, servers, and other gadgets for major tech brands, and also makes electric vehicles, robots, and digital health devices. It began in 1974 when founder Terry Gou produced plastic parts for TVs, then renamed the firm Hon Hai Precision as it shifted into computers in the 1980s. The international name "Foxconn" borrows "fox" (for swiftness) and "conn," a nod to the connectors, such as CPU sockets, it made for companies like Atari.
