A provider of data, analytics, and market intelligence used by financial firms, energy companies, and automakers around the world. It took shape in 2016 when IHS — founded in 1959 in Denver as a microfilm service for aerospace engineers — merged with Markit, launched in 2003 by a former credit trader in a flood-prone barn near London where staff had to prop the server on a chair to keep it dry. In 2022 it was absorbed into S&P Global.
