Altra Industrial Motion Corp.
A maker of clutches, brakes, couplings, and gearing that control the speed and motion of industrial machines — the parts that keep elevators, forklifts, mining equipment, and beverage-capping lines moving. The company itself was founded in 2004, when private-equity firm Genstar Capital merged the Colfax Power Transmission Group with Kilian Manufacturing. Its "house of brands" spans more than a century: TB Wood's began in 1857 as a foundry casting wood-burning stoves before switching to power transmission, and Boston Gear helped pioneer off-the-shelf standardized gears in 1877.
