Founded in 1988 by brothers Eric and Tim Crown in Tempe, Arizona, it began as a mail-order business called Hard Drives International selling computer storage from a garage, funded by a credit card cash advance. The idea came from a college paper Eric Crown wrote that earned a C grade; the company renamed itself Insight Enterprises in 1991 as it expanded beyond hard drives.
