Kinder Morgan Management LLC
A holding company created in 2001 to let institutional investors such as pension funds own a stake in Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, a pipeline master limited partnership, without the tax paperwork that came with holding partnership units directly. Its only real asset was those partnership units, and its shares traded in step with them. The Kinder Morgan name comes from founders Richard Kinder, a former Enron president, and William Morgan, who started the business in 1997. The company was folded into Kinder Morgan, Inc. in 2014.
