Kinross Gold Corp

A Toronto-based gold mining company that digs gold and silver from open-pit and underground mines across North America, South America, and Africa, with major operations including Tasiast in Mauritania and Fort Knox in Alaska. It was founded in 1993 when three smaller mining firms pooled their assets into a new publicly traded company. The name comes from a Scottish town meaning "head of the promontory" — fitting for a firm that grew into one of the world's largest gold producers.
