Lenovo Group Limited
A maker of personal computers and smart devices, Lenovo produces the business-focused ThinkPad laptops, the flexible 360-degree-hinged Yoga convertibles, tablets, and smartphones used by students, professionals, and everyday shoppers around the world. It began in 1984 in Beijing as a group of eleven researchers working out of a converted guardhouse, originally called Legend. The name "Lenovo" blends "Le" from Legend with "novo," Latin for "new," chosen in 2003 because "Legend" was already trademarked abroad, and in 2005 the company bought IBM's personal-computer business, inheriting the iconic ThinkPad brand.
