Liberty TripAdvisor Holdings is the parent company that owns TripAdvisor, the travel website where everyday travelers post reviews and opinions about hotels, restaurants, attractions, and airlines around the world. The site was founded in 2000 by Stephen Kaufer, who started it from his New Bedford, Massachusetts apartment after a frustrating trip-planning experience with his wife. Its name comes from the idea of an automated "trip advisor" that gathers fellow travelers' recommendations; Liberty TripAdvisor Holdings was created in 2013 as a tracking stock by Liberty Interactive to hold the TripAdvisor stake.
