Anadarko Petroleum Corporation
A major independent American explorer and producer of crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids, Anadarko ran deepwater platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and developed a giant liquefied natural gas project in Mozambique before being absorbed by Occidental Petroleum in 2019. It was founded in 1959 as a subsidiary of Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line and spun off to stand on its own in 1986. The company borrowed its name from the Anadarko Basin, the huge geological formation across the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles where it first drilled.
