A maker of tools that help scientists read the molecular "messages" inside cells and tissues, NanoString builds instruments and assays used in medical research. Its best-known products are the nCounter Analysis System, which uses color-coded molecular barcodes to count genes, and the GeoMx and CosMx platforms for spatial biology. It began in 2003 as a spin-out from the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, founded by Krassen Dimitrov, Amber Ratcliffe, and Dwayne Dunaway.
