Northern Institutional Funds
A family of money market mutual funds managed by Northern Trust Asset Management, offering institutions like corporations and pension funds a place to park cash for daily liquidity while keeping their principal stable. The funds grew out of Northern Trust, the Chicago bank founded in 1889 by Byron Laflin Smith during the "Gilded Age." The name "Northern" was chosen to evoke solid, old-money reliability—a deliberate contrast to the fly-by-night "wildcat" banks of the era.
