Ani Pharmaceuticals, Inc
A maker of specialty drugs for rare diseases and generics, based in Baudette, Minnesota, that makes medicines like Purified Cortrophin Gel, an injected therapy for conditions including multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. The company grew out of a 2013 merger with BioSante Pharmaceuticals, and its origins trace to an earlier Cortrophin Gel first approved in the 1950s but discontinued decades later. ANI brought that long-vanished drug back to U.S. shelves after buying its rights, and no one has ever explained what the initials "ANI" actually stand for.
