Pmc-Sierra Inc
A fabless semiconductor company that made chips for data storage, optical networking, and broadband communications — its controllers and networking silicon helped networks "connect, move, and store big data." It began as Sierra Semiconductor in San Jose in 1984, then acquired the Pacific Microelectronics Centre (PMC) in Burnaby, British Columbia, a spin-off of the research arm of phone company BC TEL. In 1997 the Canadian subsidiary overtook its parent, and the renamed PMC-Sierra moved its headquarters to Burnaby.
