Peabody Energy Corp
A coal mining company headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, that digs up and sells coal used to generate electricity and to make steel, serving customers in dozens of countries. It traces back to 1883, when 24-year-old Yale graduate Francis S. Peabody started a small Chicago coal business with a delivery wagon and two mules, later incorporating it as the Peabody Coal Company in 1890. Today it operates the North Antelope Rochelle Mine in Wyoming, often called the largest coal mine in the world.
